New Delhi: On Friday, all eyes will be on the men's singles semi-finals at Roland Garros. Top two seeds Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have not been tested yet, but with a place in a Grand Slam final at stake, expect the underdogs to give them a run for their money.
Former french Open Champ Carlos Moya is still one of the best on clay, but his protégé Rafael Nadal is now even better. Despite having more winners, Moya was decimated by the World No. 2. Just two more matches for him to make it three French Opens in a row. But Nadal has to be careful. Serbian Novak Djokovic is playing some outstanding tennis, and is in his first Grand Slam semi-final.
"He is the number three in the world in the positions this year. So obviously he is doing very well, very young and impressed a lot this year," Nadal says of his semi-final opponent.
But unlike Djokovic, this man is in familiar territory. World No. 1 Roger Federer has made the semis at Roland Garros for the third time in a row. This is one title he desperately craves for to complete a career Grand Slam. His opponent is a familiar face - Russian fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko - a man against whom Federer has won all eight matches.
"I think really, he has got much more consistent from the baseline. His serve has improved a lot. He's always been a great runner from the baseline. He's very tough to play against, very physical matches with him, and I enjoy playing against him. I think it will be a great match in the semis against him," Federer says of Davydenko.
The pundits are predicting a Nadal-Federer final for the second year in succession. But till we get there, or if we, feast your eyes on the best claycourt action that the year's second Grand Slam offers.
