In what can be termed as a first for District 41 (India) of Toastmasters International, Taskeen Fatima Basha, a senior systems engineer with Infosys Hyderabad, bagged the third place at the semifinals of Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking held in the US.
Organised by the Toastmasters International, a non-profit educational organisation, the championship helps members improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills through a network of 13,500 Toastmasters Clubs and has footprints across the globe.
Contest master Distinguished Toastmaster Andrew Little gave the award to Fatima at a ceremony at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek Hotel in Orlando, Florida.
The 24-year-old speaker, who represented District 41 (India) of Toastmasters International after winning the District 41 International speech contest in New Delhi in May this year, showcased her exemplary public speaking skills among ten semifinalists across the globe.
“It was not a cakewalk for me,” Fatima said adding, “to speak among the finest orators from different countries was quite unnerving. But as they say, nothing worthwhile comes easy. Sharing the stage with the best of the best does boost your confidence levels. Besides, it feels so good to have smiling faces from your Hyderabad and India rooting for you! Those seven minutes on the International stage were worth every penny and every second spent on Toastmasters!"
