Eight trainee soldiers were injured on Saturday, one of them seriously, when explosives used for a 'search and destroy' mission went off at a CRPF campus at Kurudampalayam on the outskirts of Coimbatore.

Eight trainee soldiers were injured on Saturday, one of them seriously, when explosives used for a 'search and destroy' mission went off at a CRPF campus at Kurudampalayam on the outskirts of Coimbatore.

According to CRPF sources, the injured were part of a group of 400 soldiers from various paramilitary wings undergoing training in batches in the exercise, which used mild quantities of RDX and IED (Improvised Explosive Device).

All of them were rushed to a private hospital, where the condition of one of them was stated to be critical, hospital sources said.
