News that Tiger Memon had been arrested in Pakistan had cogs turning in the Indian media on Wednesday, a month after Yakub Memon, his younger brother, was hanged for his role in the 1993 blasts in Mumbai, but the fact is that the main accused in the 1993 Bombay serial blast case is still at large. Geo News posted in Urdu through its Twitter handle on Wednesday afternoon that the cyber crime wing of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested a “Tiger Memon”. Within no time the news triggered a tremendous reaction all over the social media, and netizens started rejoicing.

But soon Pakistani authorities crashed the party, by clarifying that the person arrested was another criminal, with a similar alias as the 1993 blast accused. The cyber-crime wing of the FIA had arrested Furqan alias Tiger Memon, for threatening women on social media.

The offender was charged with blackmailing women, by creating fake profiles on Facebook and threatening people in the name of the real Tiger Memon But the Indian social media, as is tradition, had already concluded that this was the real Tiger Memon.
Yet again Social Media taught us a lesson that don't believe everything you see.
