The police said the NDFB was behind the abduction of the six WWF volunteers.

Kokrajhar: Three women WWF volunteers, kidnapped along with their three male colleagues, were on Tuesday released at Bangtol in Chirang district on the Assam-Bhutan border after two days in captivity while police said the NDFB was behind the abduction.

Kokrajhar SP PK Dutta said negotiations are on with the kidnappers to secure the release of three other volunteers. Dutta said that the anti-talk faction of NDFB was responsible for the kidnapping of the volunteers who were engaged in census of tigers and elephants inside the Manas Tiger reserve, a world heritage site.

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) deputy chief Khampa Borgyary, in-charge of forest department, said all efforts are on to secure the release of the remaining three volunteers.Srabana Goswami from Guwahati, Pallavi Chakravarty from Shillong and Tarali Goswami from Nalbari, were being taken to Bongaigaon where their relatives were waiting, Bongaigaon SP Nitul Gogoi said.

The three still in captivity are Syed Naushad Zaman of Golaghat, Gautam Kishore Sarma of Guwahati and Pranjal Saikia of Nagaon.The six volunteers were kidnapped by unidentified persons on Sunday from the Ultapani area in this district.
