HYDERABAD: With pookalams adorning their courtyards, Malayali men and women, dressed in traditional attire, celebrated the 10th day of Onam, Thiruvonam, in the twin cities. The Making of Pookalam, the exquisite floral rangoli which starts on Atham, the first day of Onam, ends on Thiruvonam after which the Aththa Poo (floral rangoli) brings about a festive spirit among Malayalee households.While some organisations started off with Onam celebrations on September 4, a few others will kick-start their part of events after Thiruvonam. Nair Services Society celebrated last Sunday, with the Kaikottikkali dance and other music events. “The second part of the festival celebrations will be held on September 11, wherein Nair community members will assemble at the Zoroastrain club to witness more of Kerala’s culture,” said Pradeep Nambiar, executive member, Nair Services Society. Organisations like Sree Ayyappa Devasthaanam at Tirumalgherry will be organizing a grand Onam Celebration for all devotees on September 10 and 11. The Kerala Handlooms Associations will hold a mega cultural meet for more than 600 people on September 11 at the Hanuman Mandir in R K Puram.
