Terrorists attack J&K police, two killed
Even as the state reels in the aftershocks of the quake, militants are emboldened

New Delhi: Two persons including a woman were killed when militants opened fire on a police party at the highway township of Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The attack injured eight others including a sub inspector.

A group of militants appeared at the south Kashmir town of Pampore, on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway this afternoon and opened fire on a police party patrolling the township.

Sub-inspector Abdul Rahim was injured in the exchange of fire, which continued for about fifteen minutes.

Police and paramilitary forces immediately cordoned the area and a hunt has been launched to nab the terrorists involved in the attack.

One of the deceased civilians has been identified as Shamsher Singh, a resident of Tral. However the identity of the deceased woman is yet to be ascertained.
