CHENNAI: Terror suspect Taufiq, who was arrested in Uttar Pradesh by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Tamil Nadu, was produced before a court in Poonamalle, near here, on Wednesday. He was remanded to 15 days judicial custody and lodged at the Puzhal central prison.The senior officer said that Taufiq would now be hauled up before the court for the ongoing trial in the 1997 Kodungaiyur explosives seizure case, in which he was one of the 23 accused persons. Taufiq told the SIT team that he absconded fearing that the police would eliminate him in an encounter. After his escape, Taufiq travelled to north India and from there to Nepal and later to Bangladesh. Taufiq married a Manipuri woman and the couple had a one-and-half-year-old boy.
