HYDERABAD: An IT professional was arrested by Cyber Crime police for harassing a girl by sending abusive SMSes to her mobile phone and her e-mail account. SV Ramana Murthy, additional director-general of police (CID) said the woman had lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police on August 2 regarding abusive messages being sent to her mobile and through Internet.Based on the complaint, police started an investigation. During the course of investigation, police found the mobile phone used in sending the abusive SMSes and the call details were analysed which led to the accused Harihara Kumar.“During interrogation, the accused confessed he used the computer systems from his office and home and two mobiles for sending the abusive e-mails and SMSes to the girl. The accused bore a grudge as the girl rejected his advances. Therefore, he hacked into her e-mail account and also created a fake Facebook profile to send obscene messages and e-mails to harass the victim,” cyber police said.Police also seized the hard disks of the computers and mobiles used in sending abusive SMSes and Kumar would be produced before the court. A case was registered under Section 66-A of the IT (Amendment) Act 2008 and Section 509 of IPC (intended to insult the modesty of a woman ) and investigation is on. Police warned that people should be cautious about selecting their e-mail passwords and should not share it with anyone.
