THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Lion’s Club of Trivandrum Rajadhani and Lion’s District 324 E-1 in association with NIMS Medicity are organising ‘Suhani Raat’ in memory of veteran playback singer Mohammed Rafi on Saturday at the Trivandrum Club at 6 pm. Rafi’s 31st death anniversary falls on July 31, 2011. The programme is being organised to raise funds for ‘Jeevante Hridayathaalam’, a medical assistance programme for heart patients that will be inaugurated by Minister V S Sivakumar on the occasion, Lion’s District governor Dr C Ramakrishnan Nair told a press conference here on Wednesday. A troupe led by playback singer Mohammed Aslam will recreate the immortal songs of Rafi in fulsome grace. A choreography synchronised by Sunitha Rao and team ‘Jack Peckers’ will add glitter to the songs of Rafi on stage. The amount raised by the event will be utilised to perform emergency angioplasty for patients below the poverty line at discount rates. Lion’s Club is planning to provide treatment for 200 heart patients in a year-long scheme at the NIMS Heart Care Foundation.
