CHENNAI: A special sub-inspector was run over by a tipper lorry at Porur, while a carpenter was killed in a similar collision, near Tambaram on Friday.Sources said, Veeraraghavan (52), a resident of Venkateswarar Nagar in Ramapuram, was SSI in the crime wing of Mangadu police station.On Friday morning, he was on his way to his workplace on his two-wheeler, when a sand lorry hit his vehicle near Porur flyover.Thrown off the vehicle in the impact, the police officer was caught under the wheels of the lorry and died on the spot. Poonamalle Traffic police are investigating. In another incident, Ramesh (24) of Bharathi Nagar in Vengaivasal, a carpenter, started from his home for Santhoshpuram on his bike. When he reached the main road and was negotiating a bend, a lorry coming from the opposite direction collided against his vehicle, killing him on the spot.A duo on another bike, Narayanan and Dhanasekaran, who were right behind Ramesh’s vehicle when the mishap occurred, sustained injuries after they subsequently lost their balance and fell down. St Thomas Mount traffic police are investigating.
