BANGALORE: The High Court on Thursday solved the problem of autorickshaw permits and directed the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and the respective Regional Transport Offices (RTO) to give permits to autorickshaws in RTA and registration in RTOs.Hearing an application filed by Sauharda Auto Union (SAU) which had moved the High Court seeking directions to the RTOs which have stopped the renewal of auto permits, transfer and other duties following a stay order, Justice Abdul Nazeer directed the government to have one exclusive RTO to issue auto permits. The court said that the RTA will receive applications for permits, process them and send them to the RTO exclusively meant for issuing permits. This RTO will issue permits and the vehicle owners can collect their permits from their respective RTOs.The High Court had dismissed a petition by autodrivers union which had opposed the State Government’s decision to issue permit to 40,000 new autorickshaws in the city in February. The RTA passed a resolution to assign the responsibility to issue new autorickshaw permits to ten RTOs in the city. Some autodrivers moved the court and obtained an interim stay.Following this all the RTOs stopped all the renewal of permits and registration of new autorickshaws citing the court stay.
