BHUBANESWAR: All preparations have been put in place for the biggest-ever assembly of Odissi dancers from across the globe at the International Odissi Dance Festival starting here on Friday. The event will start with a dance by 555 performers at the Kalinga Stadium in an effort to earn a place in the Guinness World Records.Ramhari Das of Odissi Research Centre (ORC) said the artistes would be performing the complete  repertoire of classical Odissi dance - Mangalacharan, Batu, Pallavi, Abhinaya and Mokshya - for half an hour for the record. A huge podium has been erected at the  Kalinga Stadium for the purpose.Last year, a similar event was organised in Hyderabad that saw 2,800 Kuchipudi dancers from across the world dancing their way to the Guinness Record. It was a 20-minute performance. It was organised jointly by California-based Silicon Andhra and the Andhra Pradesh  Government.The eight-day festival is being jointly organised by Tourism and Culture Department, ORC and the US-based Indian Performing Arts Promotion (IPAP).Besides Kalinga Stadium, programme venues are Rabindra Mandap, Utkal Mandap and Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. Seminars, symposia and discussions on the Odissi dance would be organised during the festival.
