KOTTARAKKARA/KOLLAM: An eight-member special investigation team, led by Kollam Rural SP P Prakash, has been constituted to investigate the brutal attack on a teacher at Valakam on Tuesday night. The investigation charge was handed over by Kottarakkara DySP K M Anto. Meanwhile, the condition of Krishnakumar, with near-fatal injuries on his genitals, head and fractures in the hipbone, has shown slight improvement. The SP told Express that if doctors permit they would take the statement of the victim on Thursday evening. A white Maruti Alto car found abandoned on Pattazhi road in Pathanapuram had initially led to the suspicion that it was the one used by the attackers to dump Krishnakumar at Valakam. Later, it was found that the car, owned by one Manoj of Pathanapuram, had been parked there following engine complaint. DySP Anto said that local people had seen a white Alto car passing by, with the cry of a person from it, before they found the injured Krishnakumar lying on the road. Meanwhile, rumours spread that the astrologer Sreekumar of Kadikkal, whom Krishnakumar had visited on Tuesday night, has been taken into custody. However, investigation officers said that they had not taken anyone into custody in connection with the incident, while confirming that they had interrogated Sreekumar. The investigation team including Kollam Rural SP and Kottarakkara CI are camping at the Medical College Hospital to take the statement of the victim.PROTESTS TURN VIOLENTThe march taken out by youth and student wings of various left parties at Valakam turned violent on Thursday. The protestors pelted stones at the police in front of the Ramavilasam Vocational Higher Secondary School. Glasspanes and furniture of the school were destroyed in the stone-pelting. DYFI Kottarakkara area secretary R Rajesh was injured in the Police lathi-charge.
