Sinking ship sails to packed houses
Movie halls screening the re-released 3D version of the 1997 blockbuster hit 'Titanic' are running packed houses...

BANGALORE: While movie theatres in the city resent the IPL season as ticket sales hit rock bottom during this time, however, a 3D movie has been a boon to them, this year. Hundred years ago on April 14, the ship—The Titanic, sunk to the bottom of Atlantic Ocean after hitting an iceberg. In 1997, James Cameron made a movie on this maiden voyage of the ship. A week has passed by since the movie has released in 3D, and on Saturday, movie buffs thronged the theatres.“We are surprised to see such a tremendous response for a rerun of a movie. This is the first time such an interest is being seen. We released the movie on Friday, last week, and since then, we have been running house-full for all shows. We have not even reduced the number of shows because of such good response,” said Satish Kumar, unit head, Cinepolis. Other theatres too have been running housefull shows.“We had almost 99 per cent occupancy through the first week and we are going to have the same number of shows for next week too. It has brought good response and revenue,” said Amit Varma, assistant manager, PVR Cinemas. At Rex theatre, which usually has two movies running alternatively, this week brought good response too. “We have generated almost 120 per cent revenue from this movie. All shows have been running housefull,” said an executive at Rex.Express spoke to Bangaloreans who watched the movie yet again in theatre. “I have seen the movie twice so far and I am planning to go watch it again with my school friends. It brings back old memories as I had seen the movie when I was in school and it would be nice to see it with them again,” said Sneha Shah, an advertiser.
