New Delhi: Picture this. Tamil super star Rajinikanth's health is getting decidedly better and he decides he's had enough of lying around in the hospital bed at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in downtown Singapore.
While he is in Singapore, why not scout the area as a location for his next film?
It's an area that is quiet on the inside street, with a couple of calm bylanes, a high-rise apartment complex and the popular Elizabeth hotel at the dead end. Too boring a setting for a Rajini starrer?
Cut to the outside and it's the ever busy road. The hot spot. The place you should not miss in Singapore is Orchard Street. Do I hear you say it's the perfect location?
It's not too difficult to find the plot for a film at Orchard Street, if you walk through the Paragon Mall and into Takashimaya and up those escalators to Kinokuniya, one of the world's largest bookshops. You stand at one corner and you cannot see the other. You pick the topic, you have a book. Obviously, it's no big deal for Rajinikanth. He's read them all and before you know he's got the script in place.
It's time now for the costumes. Between the Takashimaya and the Paragaon there are stores selling every conceivable brand. You want the look, you get it. And all of Rajinikanth's standard accessories are right here, waiting for him to sport them. The script is ready, the setting is done, the look is complete. Well almost! Something's missing you'd say.
How about a Harley-Davidson?
A Rajanikanth film obviously has the right machines. And the Night Rod special with the twin of the V-Rod is aggressively styled. When this rolls out of the Takashimaya store, every head will turn. Can you already see the film promos?
But of course you can't. Where are the cameras? Let's just hop across to Lucky Plaza. Every camera, every lens, every mounting, every tripod is available. As many angles as you want, we have it covered. This is one film you'd surely like to watch in 3-D.
What about the music? That's available in plenty at Orchard. Every evening live bands dot the area, while musicians play right through the day. If you want some talented singers just hop across to the metro station at the kerb where stands the Wisma Atria.
And how can it not play a role in the movie. Boasting of one of the most diverse food courts in the whole of the city, the Wisma Atria is just the place to set up a sequence of events where you move from India to China to Korea to Western Europe in a matter of seconds.
Got your popcorn? There just might be a movie about to roll.
