HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) on Wednesday directed director- general of police V Dinesh Reddy to submit a comprehensive report on the circumstances that led to preventing Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) corporator Amjedullah Khan from addressing a media conference and his subsequent arrest, by November 28. In a two-page complaint to SHRC acting chairman Kakamanu Peda Peri Reddy, the MBT corporator from Azampura sought action against city police commissioner AK Khan for arresting him.The corporator who was taken into preventive custody on Tuesday afternoon while he was going to address a media conference at a news agency in Hyderguda, was let off in the evening. Peda Peri Reddy said: “I have directed the DGP to submit a comprehensive report on the issue by November 28.” After lodging a complaint with the SHRC, Khan told mediapersons that while he was proceeding to address a media conference on a social issue and ‘incompetence’ of the city police in maintaining law and order, a team of police, led by assistant commissioner of police, Abids, local inspector and Task Force sleuths, stopped him at the Old MLA Quarters and searched his vehicle.“They told me that they were taking me into custody. When I tried to ask the reason for my arrest, the police abused and forcibly shifted me to Bollarum police station,” he said. “Addressing a press meet on issues pertaining to minorities is not violation of law. It is violation of fundamental rights to prevent me from addressing media,” he said. He alleged that the police failed to take action against the accused though attacks had been taking place on a particular section of people for the past 20 days.
