Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said the state still needs to scale new heights of growth. "We have achieved a lot but new heights still remain to be attained," Chouhan said during an Independence Day function held at the Lal Parade ground.
On the occasion, he unfurled the national flag and took the salute at a combined march past of various security personnel. Expressing his commitment towards security of women, he said the accused had been sentenced in 802 cases of atrocities against women in 2012, while action had been taken against the culprits in 644 such cases this year.
Chouhan also gave away the President's police medal for meritorious and commendable services. Bhopal North Congress MLA Arif Aqueel organised his traditional 'Paighame-E-Mohabbat' rally in his constituency on the occasion. Reports of the day being celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervor were also received from various places including, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Satna.
