The Swiss Miss made short work of her opponent from Japan beating her in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

New Delhi: Top women's seed Maria Sharapova, vying for her first Australian Open title, beat Tathiana Gorbin in straight sets to enter the fourth round.

The Russian wasted no time in defeating her opponent from Italy 6-3, 6-1 and will now play the winner of the Vera Zvonareva and Ana Ivanovic match for a place in the quarter-finals.

Martina Hingis also had a very easy outing against Aiko Nakamura who had beaten Sania Mirza in the previous round.

Hingis, three-time singles and four-time doubles winner at the Australian Open displayed good form to send Nakamura packing 6-2, 6-1.

Patty Schnyder of Switzerland who is seeded eight has eased also into the quarter-final of the Australian Open beating unseeded Australian Alicia Molik.

After losing the first set in just 26 minutes, Schnyder hit back, closing it out 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 in an hour and 25 minutes.

Schnyder will now face the winner of the Anna Chakvetadze-Jelena Kostanic match, in the quarter-final.
