AMALAPURAM: Congress member of the Rajya Sabha V Hanumantha Rao has underlined the need for framing rules on installation of statues of national leaders and important personalities and said statues should not be erected in places where there is no safety.Rao, along with Amala-puram Congress MP GV Harsha Kumar, on Sunday visited four areas of the town where the statues of Dr BR Ambedkar were desecrated recently.Speaking in this connection, he said damaging leaders' statues was an insult to the nation and one had to feel ashamed of what happened.The government should not leave the miscreants, who damaged the statues of Ambedkar, go scot-free, he said.“Ambedkar was a great personality and leader of all people.Police should investigate the case without bias and book the culprits whoever they may be,'' Rao said.Later, the two MPs went to T Kothapalli and paid homage to M Murali Mohan Rao, Regency Ceremics Limited workers’ union leader, who died in police lathicharge at Yanam.ATTACKER NABBEDPolice on Sunday arrested Gandham Pallam Raju, one of the accused of damaging Ambedkar statues here.On Saturday three youngsters were arrested and produced before the media.Pallam Raju would be produced in the court on Monday, subinspector Baji Lal said.Four Ambedkar statues were disfugured in and around the town last Sunda
