KOCHI: The court, where lawbreakers are brought to justice, looks like the Corporation’s dumping yard with bodies of dogs and waste scattered all around. This situation at the trial court in Ravipuram not only raises hygiene related issues but also threatens the security situation as well. The condition is such that it will not be surprising if a case-related file or other important document is lost or even burned as the security is minimal at the Ravipuram trial court. It is only during a trial that the security is tightened by adding more policemen in the vicinity. However, at other times and in the night time, there are only a few policemen to guard the court. Recently, there had been an intelligence alert that suggested the security at the court should be intensified.Special Court Judge S Vijayakumar during the trial of the Kashmir recruitment case on Thursday said that they are considering moving the Special Court to some other place considering lack of facilities in the current building. The court officials had submitted proposal before the High Court to shift the Special Court from current location to Old NUALS campus in Kaloor.“We have special security system on trial days. But on normal days, our patrolling units roam around this area constantly. For night time, we depute two policemen to guard the area. The policemen are equipped only with lathis. One of the major problems is that the compound wall is not high and any one can easily enter the compound,” a police official said. The court building runs on a private property taken on rent. The building is also in a pathetic condition with no proper maintenance. “The security in the building is pathetic. A burglar can easily enter the area and steal any document. The police are not enough to keep guard of the compound. Besides, there are other government and private offices functioning in the same building. The court room and the corridor are small and get crowded with the policemen during the trial days. Cleaning of the compound, which is to done by the Corporation, is not regularly done and dogs breed on the corridor of the court,” a court official said.
