The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Congress plea for an interim order to restrain the Governor from swearing in a new chief minister in Arunachal Pradesh
The apex court also declined Congress prayer for maintaining status quo in the state where a new government led by dissident Congress leader Kalikho Pul is set to be sworn in.
Pul, accompanied by 18 Congress rebels, 11 BJP and 2 independent MLAs have staked claim to form the government.
The SC's decision comes a day after Congress leaders informed the Supreme Court that they have learnt about the recommendation of Arunachal Pradesh Governor J P Rajkhowa to lift President's Rule in the state.
Senior lawyers FS Nariman and Kapil Sibal, who represented former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, former Speaker Nabam Rebia and others, said there was a plan to swear-in a new government in the state.
Following the SC order the Union Cabinet may recommend revocation of President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh, possibly on Wednesday.
The Home Ministry is waiting for a report from Governor JP Rajkhowa about the latest political situation in the sensitive border state.
Official sources told PTI that the Governor's report is expected soon and if it suggests formation of a new government, the Home Ministry will present a note before the Union Cabinet.
