New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to quash a FIR against religious guru Asaram Babu in which he has been accused of ordering the murder of a former aide, Raju Chandok.
"Asaram Bapu wasn't present at the time of the incident. So we had given a petition but the Supreme Court did not agree so we withdrew our petition," the religious guru's lawyer DK Sharma.
The two-member bench comprising Justices Altamas Kabir and Swantater Kumar allowed Asaram Bapu's lawyer to withdraw the petition.
Chandok has alleged the attempt on his life in December 2009 was ordered at Asaram Bapu's behest after he had made a statement against the religious guru before a commission of inquiry.
A case under Section 307 IPC was registered against the Asaram Bapu after Chandok 's allegation.
Earlier the Supreme Court had declined to stay the arrest of Asaram Bapu in the case.
Asaram Bapu had challenged the order of Gujarat High Court which had dismissed his petition under Section 482 CrPC for quashing of the FIR.
He is also facing allegations of indulging in large scale encroachment of public land and has already been told by the authorities to vacate it.
