Thiruvananthapuram: In a relief for Kerala-based hotels, the Supreme Court has asked the Kerala government not to cancel their licences or take any coercive action till Thursday.
Agreeing to hear the plea of Kerala-based hotels against the state government's decision not to grant them bar licence, the SC has posted the matter to be heard on Thursday.
Kerala government had decided to cancel the licences of 312 bars by this week as part of its plan to make the state alcohol free in the next 10 years. The UDF government had stated that in its new liquor policy that only five star hotels will have bars to sell Indian Made Foreign Liquor.
Earlier on September 3, Kerala High Court had declined to stay the closure of over 700 bar hotels below five star categories.
