Sarga Sangamam begins in city on November 8

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Sarga Sangamam’, a five-day cultural fete for industrial workers in the state, will begin here on Tuesday. Speaker G Karthikeyan will inaugurate the festival at the Recreation Club Hall of HLL Lifecare campus, Peroorkada here, at 6 pm. The festival is being organised by HLL Lifecare, in association with the State Bank of India. HLL chairman and managing director M Ayyappan will preside over the function and veteran theatre personality Kavalam Narayana Panicker will be the chief guest. Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, Ayyappan said that the festival  aims at forging a bond in the industrial sector through art and culture.  A theatre workshop led by Kavalam Narayana Panicker will be held at 4 pm prior to the inaugural function. S Radhakrishnan of AIR will be the moderator. Raja Warrier will deliver a talk on modern stage settings. Ten dramas will be presented by various industrial units during the festival. The best drama will win the MKK Nair Memorial trophy, citation, plaque and a purse of Rs 25,000. ‘Sabarmati’ by the KSRTC team (6.30 pm) and ‘Ottappalam’ by Model Food Products (8.30 pm) will be staged on Tuesday. ‘Godhoye Kaathu’ by HLL Lifecare (6.30 pm) and ‘Mukthadhara’ by AAI (8.30 pm) will be staged on November 9. ‘Avasthantharam’ by Keltron (6.30 pm) and ‘Daivathottam’ by SBT (8.30 pm) will be staged on November 10. ‘Madhyadharanyazhi’ by KRL (6.30 pm) and ‘Kaduva’ by Cochin Port Trust (8.30 pm) will be staged on November 11 and ‘Kadhanthyathil Kettathu’ by TCC (6.30 pm) and ‘Oru Athirthi Nadakam’ by Titanium (8.30 pm) will be staged on November 12. The MKK Nair Memorial prize will be presented at a gala ceremony to be held at the Panchayat Association Hall at Vellayambalam here on November 26. A souvenir on the cultural fete will also be released at the function. Award for ThilakanThe first Sarga Sangamam award for lifetime achievement in the field of theatre will be presented to veteran cine and theatre artiste Thilakan. Thilakan was selected by a jury comprising Kavalam Narayana Panicker. ‘’Even between his busy schedules in the film field, Thilakan still finds time for theatre that is very close to his heart,’’ Panicker said. Speaker G Karthikeyan will present the award at the Sarga Sangamam inaugural function on Tuesday.
