One of the accused, identified as Vishal, also known as Kalu, involved in Sunday’s shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai, was first arrested in a case of motorbike theft in 2020 and subsequently sent to Tihar jail.
Vishal, who is currently in police custody, is allegedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and worked for gangster Rohit Godara, who reportedly leads the Bishnoi gang in Rajasthan and is believed to have orchestrated the attack.
In one of the CCTV footage shared by the Mumbai police following the firing incident, Vishal can be seen walking with the other suspect.
Who is Vishal Alias Kalu?
Last month, Vishal, along with his two associates, reportedly killed Gurugram-based businessman Sachin Munjal. He is also suspected to have been involved in multiple killings and robberies in Haryana.
“Sachin was gunned down in Rohtak. After the incident, Godara took responsibility for the murder,” an official told The Indian Express.
Vishal, a school dropout, hails from Mahavir Pura in Gurugram. “After leaving school, he started working as a labourer and also became friends with some local criminals,” the official cited from Vishal’s criminal dossier.
“On November 9, 2020, he allegedly stole a motorbike from Gurgaon, but he was caught by the patrolling staff of Delhi Police in North Delhi’s Maurice Nagar during vehicle checking. He was arrested and sent to judicial custody,” he added.
According to his criminal record, following the initial theft case, three additional cases involving robbery, snatching, and possession of firearms were registered against him in 2023 at the Bawana police station. “In Tihar jail, he met some of the associates of Godara and decided to join their gang.”
Godara, a close associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, is believed to oversee all operations of the Bishnoi gang from the UK. He is also also accused in the murder of singer-turned-politician Sidhu Moose Wala who was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May, 2022.
