Two unidentified motorbike-borne persons opened fire outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai’s Bandra in the early morning hours of Sunday, prompting police to enhance security in the area.

No one was harmed in the incident but one bullet was found inside the actor’s home gallery. The attackers have been identified and booked by Mumbai Police for attempt to murder and arms act. The police have also seized the bike used by attackers. The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch.

The two persons fired four rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments in Bandra area, where the actor resides, at around 5 am and fled from the spot, the police official said.

Salman Khan was present in his home at the time of the incident, Mumbai Police said, adding that the bullets were fired in the air.

Raj Tilak Roushan, DCP Mumbai, told news agency ANI, “Today at around 5 am, two unidentified people opened fire outside the house of actor Salman Khan in Bandra. Police have received information about 3 rounds of firing. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway in the case. No one was injured in the firing incident.”

CM Shinde Dials Salman After Firing

After the firing, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde spoke to Salman Khan over a phone call. Shinde also held discussions with the Mumbai Police Commissioner and suggested increasing Salman Khan’s security. Top police sources said that appropriate security review is being done in view of the firing incident.

“This is an unfortunate incident. Police are investigating it. The accused will be caught and stringent action will be taken against them,” Shinde said. The Maharashtra CM also said that “those who take the law into their own hands won’t be spared”.

“Commissioner has been informed to assess the security of Salman Khan and his entire family & increase the security. I have also spoken with Salman Khan too. I have told him that the Government is with him and he need not worry,” Shinde added.

The Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor’s father, Salim Khan, spoke to CNN-News18 and said that “there is nothing to tell”. “They just want publicity, there is no need to worry,” he added.

SHOOTERS FROM OUTSIDE MAHARASHTRA: POLICE

A case has been registered against the unknown persons in connection to the firing outside Salman Khan’s residence. The FIR was registered under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code and 3(25) section of the Arms Act.

Police sources noted that a 7.62 weapon was used in the firing. From the Galaxy apartments, the bikers went towards the Western Express Highway, sources said, adding that there is a possibility that the men would have moved outside Mumbai.

Additionally, police sources have said that the shooters are from outside Maharashtra.

As many as 15 police teams have been formed to track down and nab the accused, sources said. Mumbai top cops, including Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Lakhmi Gautam and encounter specialist Daya Nayak arrive outside the actor’s home as they began their investigation.

Notably, the actor had not received any threats prior to the firing incident.

Lawrence Bishnoi’s Brother Claims Responsibility

Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol, has claimed responsibility for the firing incident in a social media post. However, News18 could not independently verify this post.

Mumbai Police are probing this matter and checking Anmol Bishnoi’s social media handle.

Salman Got Threat From Goldy Brar In 2023

Last year, Salman Khan had received a threat e-mail from Canada-based fugitive gangster Goldy Brar, who had openly declared that Khan was on his gang’s hit-list.

Following the e-mail threat, Mumbai Police had registered an FIR against gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar and another person under IPC Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 506-II (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention).

The Bollywood superstar was granted Y+ security after he reportedly received a death threat from the Bishnoi Gang.
