KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation will soon submit a proposal to the State Government seeking sanction to undertake the renovation work of major roads in the city on a five-year guarantee basis.
Mayor Tony Chammany told the Council meeting held here on Monday that the civic body would soon prepare a list of major roads that are to be repaired on a fiveyear guarantee basis and will submit it to the government."The number of vehicles are increasing day by day and the roads, if repaired according to the existing tarring system, will easily get damaged during rain. Hence we will request the state government to take steps to renovate such roads on a fiveyear guarantee basis," Chammany said.

About the ongoing strike of the Kochi Corporation contractors, the Mayor said that he would soon convene a meeting with them. "We have already taken measures to secure an overdraft of Rs 5 crore from a private sector bank. The amount will be given to the contractors as an immediate relief. The rest of the amount will be paid in three to four installments," he said.
