Former Principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh and Station House Officer (SHO) of Tala Police Station Abhijit Mondal will be produced in the court today after their arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case on September 14.

In the case filed against both, the probe agency has charged them for the delay in filing the FIR and tampering with evidence in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at the state-run health facility on August 9.

In a separate case related to the alleged financial irregularities in the RG Kar hospital, Ghosh was already under CBI custody and underwent a polygraph test.

It comes amid the protest by the junior doctors outside the West Bengal Health Department headquarters in Kolkata that entered its sixth day on Sunday. The agitating doctors are still standing firm on their demand seeking the removal of top government officials, top police officers, and justice for the trainee doctor.

The body of the 31-year-old trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. The autopsy report suggested that she was brutally raped before being murdered. During the initial probe, the Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, who admitted to the crime.

Doctors to Hold Mega Protest Rally

Amid the deadlock between the protesting junior doctors and the Mamata Banerjee-led state government, the medics associated with the state-run health facilities have called for a mega rally from Saltlake Central Park to State Health Department headquarters today, September, 15.

It comes after another round of much-anticipated talks between the agitating doctors and the state government failed to take place on Saturday. The delegation of doctors went to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat and had to return without the meeting taking place.

The junior doctors requested live streaming of the meeting or be allowed to video-graph the proceedings. The state government rejected the proposal, saying the videography would be done by the government only.

Mamata Reaches Protest Site Amid Talks Deadlock

Banerjee on Sunday afternoon made a surprise visit outside the Swasthya Bhavan- the Health Department headquarters- in Saltlake where junior doctors have been protesting for the last six days demanding justice for the young trainee doctor.

The Chief Minister assured the protesting doctors that their demands would be addressed, asking them to come for talks.

“I have spent sleepless nights as you have been protesting on the road amid rain. I assure you that I will study your demands, take action if someone is found guilty,” Banerjee told the protesting doctors.
