The renovation works at Hasa namba Temple, which opens only eight days in a year during Deepavali, are going on at a snail’s pace.
The state government had sanctioned `1 crore for the project.
Lakhs of devotees from across the country throng the Temple every year.
Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had sanctioned `1 crore for the renovation following appeal from the then district minister V Somanna and local MLA H S Prakash.
The government released `60 lakh to the Public Works Department which is the implementing agency, in February 2010.
Sources say the authorities are ‘delaying’ the project, despite strict direction by the elected representatives and senior members of the temple committee to complete the work on time.
Devotees also donated lakhs of rupees for the renovation.
The authorities are yet to take up the works on Rajagopura, barricade, toilets, priest’s residence, chariot shed, concrete platform, shops to sell pooja materials and a parking lot.
Sources said that the work has been stalled due to non-availability of sculptors from Tamil Nadu who are reportedly busy with other work in their state.
Suresh, a devotee, alleged that the committee formed to supervise the work is not conducting a meeting to discuss the issues.
“There is no fund shortage for the ongoing works and the remaining works will be completed as per the previous agreement,” said MLA H S Prakash.
