HYDERABAD: Following a plethora of complaints from employees’ unions about bogus workers in sweeping units, absence of sanitation workers in the field and contractors’ failure to pay wages, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up restructuring of sweeping units with existing sweeping workers.In the new process, sanitation workers’groups (SWGs) consisting of seven workers each, will be formed and only those SWGs registered with the off-site research tracking system would be taken and in no circumstances, will new workers would be inducted.All mopping workers working in the day but belong to the night sweeping unit would be made part of the day SWGs.Private supervisors of the existing sweeping unit with suitable qualifications will be designated as sanitary field assistants (SFA) on outsourcing basis to oversee three SWGs.The SWGs will be registered under the Societies Registration Act.An agency will be identified centrally for each zone for providing conservancy articles.The wages would be paid through bank accounts only.Each group will be given a name and they will have to open a group account in the SBH operated jointly by seven members and similarly, individual accounts of workers will be opened in the same bank and branch.The existing OSRT will continue to be in force and the SFAs will be responsible for taking photos and uploading it thrice during working hours.Also the cleaned roads as an output would also uploaded as images.The Area Sabha, Colony Association and Ward Committee will monitor the quality of sweeping in its jurisdiction and inform the AMOH about the work done.
