CHENNAI: Ravanan, a relative of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s former aide Sasikala, was produced before the Alandur Judicial Magistrate Court on Friday A special police team of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) brought Ravanan from Coimbatore prison to the city in connection with cheating cases involving Rs1 crore. The CCB produced him before Alandur Judicial Magistrate M Balasubramaniam, who remanded him to 15 days of judicial custody. He was subsequently lodged in the Central Prison, Puzhal.The CCB had filed a petition seeking police custody of Ravanan for five days to question him over the cheating case registered against him based on a complaint filed by Krishnamoorthy, a realtor from Tiruppur.In his complaint with the Chennai CCB, Krishnamoorthy, the managing director of R K Imay Property Developers Private Limited, alleged that Ravanan took `1 crore from him, promising to get him sand quarry licenses in Trichy and Karur areas. However, Ravanan did not get him the license and threatened Krishnamurthy with dire consequences when the latter asked him to return his money. The petition will be taken up for hearing on February 6 Ravanan’s lawyer also filed a petition that sought an excuse from police custody for his client as he was not well. That petition will be taken up hearing on February 6.In a petition filed earlier, the CCB stated that they wanted to arrest Ravanan on February 1 in connection with the cheating case. For this, they obtained a warrant from the Alandur JM court. A special team then went to Coimbatore to arrest Ravanan, who was already in prison in connection with another case, and brought him to Chennai.Earlier, Ravanan was arrested for abducting and extorting `10 lakh from a building contractor, Ravikumar of Sirumugai, and was lodged in the Coimbatore prison.
