PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N Rangasamy, on Saturday, reviewed the law and order situation in Puducherry with Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) incharge Monica Bharadwaj, Superintendents of Police and Circle Inspectors. The main areas of discussion were extortion by rowdy elements, chain snatching and measures to curb their practices. In the recent past, cable TV operators and traders had been facing extortion threats from history sheeter Karuna, a gangster currently lodged in the Yanam sub-jail. It was alleged that instructions were being passed by Karuna through cell phones to his associates outside. Following the threat, cable TV operators held discussions with the police officials.The traders in almost all areas of Puducherry were facing threats of extortion from rowdy elements notable of whom was Truck Siva. Last week AIADMK MLA Om Sakthi Segar distributed notices to all shops in Nellithope constituency against complying with goondas who were demanding ‘mamool’. He advised them to contact him over the phone if any such persons approached them or inform the police. He provided them the phone numbers of inspectors, sub-inspectors and the local station.
