In a shocking incident from Rajasthan, a man killed his father with a sharp weapon and buried the body in the courtyard of his house, police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Chunni Lal, attacked his 60-year-old father, Rajeng Baranda, with a sharp weapon on his head following a heated argument on Wednesday. Baranda died on the spot, following which, Chunni Lal buried the body in the courtyard of his house in the Dungarpur district.

The victim, Rajeng Baranda had four sons, Prakash, Dinesh, Pappu, and Chunni Lal. According to police, while Prakash and his mother lived in Ahmedabad, the other siblings resided in Balwara village in Dungarpur and Baranda lived with Chunni Lal in a separate house.

The incident came to light when Dinesh and Pappu called their brother Prakash and informed him that they had not seen their father for the last two days. Prakash with his mother arrived in the village and confronted Chunni Lal, who initially cooked up false stories about his absence.

Unsatisfied with Chunni Lal’s responses, the family approached the police on Friday after which he confessed to killing his father, police said.

The body was exhumed from the courtyard and lodged in the mortuary of the district hospital.

A case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302 (murder) and Chunni Lal has been arrested, police noted.

Earlier this month, a man in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district allegedly hacked his 31-year-old daughter to death for refusing to get married. The accused, 55-year-old Govind Singh, a farmer, had been forcing his daughter Krishna to get married but the latter kept refusing, Gogamedi police station SHO Ajay Kumar said.

A 22-year-old man allegedly killed his wife with a sharp-edged weapon following an argument in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, police said on March 5. The couple had eloped and gotten married less than a month ago.
