CHENNAI: The entrance to the Quaid-e-Millath Government Women’s College (QMGWC), on Monday morning was abuzz with students holding placards and white and blue balloons, as part of the inauguration of an awareness programme on road safety.Organised by District 321 A8 of Lions Club International, a road safety booklet was released as part of the proceedings.Lion S Sanjeevi, District Chairperson of Road Safety Awareness Programme, congratulated the NSS students of QMGWC on their continuous work for the programme.Two Road Safety Patrol students each from five units of the NSS of the college, were given Appreciation Awards. Arthi Kumari, Ayesha Begum, Narmada, Thenmozhi, Priyanka, Ashwini, Jhansi, Sudha, Arulvadivu and Chandravadivu were presented with mementoes by VA Ravikumar, Joint Commissioner of Police – Traffic (South).Speaking at the event, MJF Lion P Rajamanickam, District Governor of Lions Club, said that the mindset towards road safety had to change, along with social responsibility. “We have to realise that it is our duty to follow road rules as they have been drafted for our safety,” he said.Territory manager – Services of TVS Motor Company, P Binoy Kumar, donated Road Safety Patrol kits to the students.Others present at the event included D Ganthimathi, Principal (in charge) of QMGWC; MJF Lion R Palamalai, First Vice District Governor; PMJF Lion Dr G Manilal, Second Vice District Governor; Lion D Shegar, Cabinet Secretary and Lion T Thiyagarajan, Cabinet Treasurer.
