CHENNAI: A quo-warranto writ petition questioning under what authority Dr P Vijayan is holding the post of the VC of the Indian Maritime University has been dismissed by the HC.The petitioner had not made out any case and in the absence of any statutory disqualification, the writ in the nature of quo-warranto could not be issued, Justice K Chandru observed. The judge dismissed the writ petition from D Ganesan, State organiser of the Revolutionary Students’ Youth Front, alleging among other things that Vijayan was facing a disproportionate assets case.Whether Vijayan was involved in serious misdemeanor or not was entirely an issue which the Union shipping ministry had to consider. It was stated in its counter-affidavit that the ministry had not received any report from the investigating agency and as and when such a report was received, it was always open to it to take appropriate action, so that persons holding high office were not under any cloud the judge said and dismissed the petition.
