KOCHI:  The Public Works Department (PWD) has formulated 50 projects which will be implemented in the state soon, PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju has said.“Most of these projects have already begun. Strict instructions have been given to the officials concerned to complete the projects on time. A state-level review meeting will be held in Kochi on Tuesday to analyse the status of the projects that have already begun.The repair works on the National Highways and the PWD roads in the state have been completed. These works were completed with an additional amount of `314.5 crore apart from the budgetary allocation of  `470 crore. `8.75 crore has been spent for the maintenance work on the NH,” said the minister.He added that the projects which have been completed and those which are undergoing are satisfactory. The minister said that e-tenders have come into existence in the state. An amount of `157.96 crore has been sanctioned for the road repair works in five corporations. These works will be completed by May 2012.Administrative sanction for `1308 crore towards road development has been given in the current financial year so far. Apart from this `154 crore has been sanctioned from the NABARD funds for 29 projects. The 1,000 kms of roads to be repaired will be identified by mid January.There are also plans to earmark 8,570 kms of roads in the state as major roads to be brought under the PWD. The Thiruvananthapuram city development project of the Road Fund Board will be completed by March this year. Similar projects will be coming up in Kozhikode and Kochi. The initial land acquisition measures have begun in Kochi. City development projects are underway in Kottayam, Malappuram, Thrissur and Kannur, said Ebrahim Kunju.The ‘Green Building Policy’ has been formed. It will soon get the government clearance. A total of 45 rest houses in the state will be renovated using `6.75 crore, the minister said. Eight buildings have been selected to be renovated under the first phase of the Heritage Building Conservation Project.  A detail project report of the Kozhikode mono-rail project is in its final stage. The financial structuring of the project, which will include private participation, is yet to be finalised, Ebrahim Kunju said. 25 kms of the Seaport-Airport Road in Kochi will be renovated using the concrete tarring method, as decided in the Infrastructure Conference held in Thiruvananthapuram. The `93.6-crore maintenance work on 283 kms of roads under the first phase of KSUDP will begin this month. From now on, the maintenance estimate of roads will include the funds required for road safety too. There will also be School safety zones in PWD roads.The renovation work on 14 roads in the state have begun. `169 crore has been sanctioned under the Central road fund. All the above-mentioned issues will be thoroughly analysed at the review meeting, the minister said.
