Puducherry: BJP President Amit Shah will hold consultations with a five-member delegation of party's Puducherry unit in Delhi on March 24 in connection with the assembly elections due next year in the union territory.

The delegation, which has been invited by Shah, would brief the high command on various strategies the party should adopt in the union territory eyeing the 2016 Assembly polls, unit General Secretary RV Swaminathan said in a release in Puducherry.

Puducherry unit party President M Visweswaran, MLA, would lead the delegation which would also comprise former chiefs R Kesavalau and Damodar and Secretary Shankar besides himself, he said.

Ruling AINRC founded by Chief Minister N Rangasamy contested the Parliament elections last year in alliance with BJP and won the lone Lok Sabha seat in Pududcherry. As part of the alliance, BJP was later given one of the three nominated MLAs post with the party chosing Visweswaran for it. The assembly has a strength of 33, including the three nominated MLAs.

"We will seek the NDA Government's measures for the development of Puducherry and for ending unemployment problem among the youth", Swaminathan said adding that among other subjects the delegation would also seek the Centre to post a regular Lt Governor for the Union Territory.

Presently, the Lt Governor Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lt General (retired) AK Singh is holding additional charge of the post here since July 17 last, replacing his predecessor Virendra Katari.
