BANGALORE: It was a pleasant evening at the Atria Hotel on Monday for the invites who attended the launch of a calendar by the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) as it announced its journey into its 100th year.B Vijayakumar, Chairman, KSIC, who also happens to be a producer of few Kannada films roped in heroines of yesteryears as well as the young, energetic and beautiful queens of Sandalwood.None of the heroines had demanded any monetary gains for gracing the function. However, Tara Venu, the national award winner and active member of Bharatiya Janata Party, was quick to remind Vijayakumar that none of the heroines had demanded money for attending the photo shoot of the calendar. She was heard telling the crowd that the KSIC gave them only silk sarees and certainly no money.Among the three ministers, Medical Education minister S A Ramdas, made a fervent appeal to the heroines to lend their helping hand to the children living with HIV across the state. The minister had explained to the heroines about the government’s plans to these children. “I humbly request all of you to lend a helping hand to these unfortunate children. We have prepared a plan to make all the elected representatives to adopt the children. The prevalence of HIV is high in Karnataka and Maharashtra border areas,” narrated the minister.Strangely enough, neither the heroines nor the ministers came forward to lend their support to the children. Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, a yesteryear’s heroine, congratulated Vijayakumar, but remained mum and avoided the topic of committing to the kids. Tara Venu also did not comment on her decision to help the children.
