HYDERABAD: The prevailing political uncertainity in the state has forced the Congress and PRP leadership to conduct their “merger” ceremony in a simple manner. PRP president K Chiranjeevi is expected to take Congress party’s membership in the first week of August. It may be recalled that Chiranjeevi along with law minister and the then incharge of AP affairs M Veerappa Moily, after having a meeting with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in Delhi, had announced the merger of Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress in February 2011. The merger process was completed on June 14.According to sources, the public meeting to mark the Congress-PRP merger will not take place in view of the ongoing disturbances due to separate Telangana issue.PRP founder president and actor Chiranjeevi will take the Congress party membership in the presence of Sonia Gandhi at AICC office in New Delhi. While the state-level PRP leaders will take the party membership at Gandhi Bhavan (state Congress party headquarters) and the district leaders at the DCC (District Congress Committee) offices concerned. It is learnt that the PRP cadre, particularly the close aides of Chiranjeevi, are worried with respect to accommodating them in the state cabinet and the government nominated posts. After the announcement of the PRP merger with the Congress, the party MLAs and other state-level leaders are expecting a “better position” in the Congress government headed by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. However, the prevailing political uncertainity forced them to wait till normalcy is restored in the state.
