London: After repeated delay, the first hearing in the inquest into Princess Diana’s death will be held early next year, it was confirmed on Thursday.
According to the Mirror, the court service said that the inquest would be led by Dame Elizabeth Butler-Sloss, who is a retired senior judge.
Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed died after the Mercedes in which they were travelling crashed in the Alma underpass in Paris.
The appointment of Butler-Sloss as Deputy Coroner of the Queen's Household and Assistant Deputy Coroner for Surrey, for the purposes of hearing the inquests has also been officially confirmed.
However, it has not yet been decided whether Dodi Fayed's inquest will be held jointly or will take place separately.
A two-year investigation in France into the accident had blamed the car's driver, Henri Paul, for losing control of the vehicle because he was high on drink and prescription drugs and was driving too fast.
