Port Louis: President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday attended the national day celebrations of Mauritius as the chief guest, with the event featuring performances of local and foreign artists, including a contingent of Indian Navy and singer Shibani Kashyap.
During the two-hour function, held at Anjalay stadium, there was a fly-past by police helicopters band French Transall aircraft, Indian Navy Chetak helicopters and Dornier aircraft, and aerial display by police helicopter squadron and fly-past by an A-380 aircraft of Emirates Airways. Besides, the cultural programme by Mauritian and Indian artists was witnessed by a jam-packed stadium -- estimated to be 30,000 spectators.
Apart from Mukherjee, those who attended the function included Minister of State for Home RPN Singh, parliamentarians -- Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Satyabrata Chaturvedi, and Kusum Rai. Shibani Kashyap's performance was facilitated by Indian Council for Cultural Research.
Mauritius President Rajkeswur Purryag, Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Ministers, bureaucrats and other officials also attended the event.
