MADURAI: The district crime branch (DCB) on Monday booked N Suresh Babu alias ‘Pottu’ Suresh under the Goondas Act for indulging in acts that endangered public safety.This has come as a shock to the rest of Alagiri’s henchmen who are under arrest for various charges.A highly placed source in the police department said the Goondas Act was invoked against him after taking into consideration his complicity in creating fear among the public, as he was a habitual offender. The police decided to detain him under the Goondas Act with the consent of the district collector.Suresh was arrested, along with three other DMK men—including DMK’s urban district secretary G Thalapathy, in a land grab case on July 19. On July 24, yet another land grab case was registered against the DMK men, including Suresh. He is expected to be produced in court to get permission for taking him into police custody for further investigation.
