New Delhi: In a pre-dawn encounter on Sunday January 25 in Noida, two suspected Pakistani terrorists, trying to enter Delhi from Ghaziabad, were killed and an Uttar Pradesh ATS personnel was injured.
"Two terrorists have been gunned down by our team at Noida and we are collecting the evidence and trying to figure out what they were up to," Inspector General, Special Task Force, A K Jain told reporters.
The incident took place at 2.35 am at sector 97, near Sector 100 after the terrorists, travelling in a white Maruti car, opened fire on the ATS team, leading to an exchange of fire between the two sides.
"One of the terrorists, while being taken to hospital identified himself as Farooq, a resident of Okara in Pakistan, and his companion as Abu Ismail from Rawalakot (POK)," Additional Director General of Police (Uttar Pradesh) Brij Lal told a press
conference in Lucknow.
A hand grenade, two AK-47 rifles and a rucksack were recovered from the ultras, who were travelling in a car.
"We are investigating. We have to see what IDs etc do we get," Senior Superintendent of Police, Noida, Naveen Arora
said.
The terrorists were planning to reach Delhi via Okhla.
They were chased by the ATS team when they tried to take a turn near Amity bridge here, he said.
Just a day before the nation celebrates its Republic Day and while the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recuperates after a major surgery in the national capital, two terrorists managed to enter the national capital territory (NCT).
The intelligence inputs and quick action from Anti Terrorism Squads as well as Uttar Pradesh Police have ensured that they did not escape, though.
After the police asked the two men in the white Maruti car to surrender, the two terrorists fired at the police, sources said.
In return fire, the two terrorists were killed. The Maruti car in which the militants were travelling had UP registration number of Ghaziabad.
Meanwhile the Bomb Squad of the Provincial Arms Constabulary (PAC) also reached the spot and was looking for clue.
Recoveries made from the militants:
- one kg RDX,
- two AK 47 rifles,
- two hand grenades,>/li>
- five detonators,
- three fuse,
- some white powder,>/li>
- two passport,
- cash, a black and red rucksack/bag,
- one fake identity card bearing name Sagir Chaudhary of a college from New Usmanpur,
- and some documents.
The two terrorists clearly had plans of terror activities on the eve of Republic Day.
Meanwhile, an infiltration bid has also been reported on the international border at Akhnoor in Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) where security forces report seeing four to five infiltrators.
The men were trying to enter India from the Pakistani side, say security forces.
