Four naxals were arrested on Tuesday during a search operation in Maoist-hit Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
"The cadres of Jan militia group of Maoists were arrested by the joint contingent of district force and ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police) from the Manpur police station area of the district," Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Shukla said.
Those arrested were identified as chief of Gram Raksha Dal (a village level squad of rebels) Heeralal Padda, secretary Darju Ram Salaam, Baisu Ram and Bisru Ram Kureti, the SP said, adding that they were active since 2004 in Manpur area.
Muzzle loading guns were allegedly recovered from the possession of each of them. The security forces had recovered several documents after an encounter with Naxals on June 8 in Bukmarka hills and based on the information in these, the four were nabbed from different villages, he said.
"We got information about several Jan militia members active in the region through those documents and we will soon take action against all of them," the SP said.
Those arrested were acting as Maoist messengers and helping the ultras in supplying food grains, sticking posters and banners among others, he added.
