Union Minister Gen VK Singh on Friday raised the problem of long power cuts and load shedding in Uttar Pradesh, including the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked Power Ministry to convene a meeting with the state government to solve the problem.

"I am representing Ghaziabad in UP and for the last four days, I have been receiving complaints about load shedding or interrupted power supply for long hours there. "There are reports that even in Varanasi, which is represented by the Prime Minister, people are deprived in respect of power availability," Singh, who is LS member from GHas said in a letter to the Power Minister Piyush Goyal.

The former Army Chief requested the Power Minister to "convene a meeting on priority basis, wherein the officials of the concerned state governments as well as the Government of India may participate." He expressed willingness to be invited to the meeting to "place my points for appropriate and suitable action."

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has blamed the Centre for the power crisis in the state. "The state government is capable of producing electricity itself, but the Central government has not given coal to us. And so, despite signing nine MoUs with several companies, we are not being able to produce power. If the Union government gives us coal, we will start producing power in the state," he said in Kanpur.
