Chennai: Criticising the Centre's decision to invite officials from Tamil Nadu and Kerala for discussions on the Mullaperiyar Dam issue, PMK on Tuesday asked Tamil Nadu not to hold talks with the neighbouring state as a case on the matter is pending before the Supreme Court.
Alleging that the Centre had given the invitation for talks only "under pressure" from Kerala government, PMK founder S Ramadoss said the Union government "did not respect the sentiments of Tamil Nadu and is biased towards Kerala."
While a case on the dam was in the Supreme Court and its judgement pending, a call for talks between the states itself showed that the "Centre is biased towards Kerala", he said in a statement.
"If we hold talks with Kerala, while justice is in our (Tamil Nadu) side, it will mean that we give away our rights. So, we should not hold talks with Kerala," he said.
He asked Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to explain whether Tamil Nadu had accepted the invitation.
