KANNUR: The statement made by Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan came in for sharp criticism by CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday. Pointing out that the Home Minister had contradicted the observation of DGP Jacob Punnoose that the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan at Onchiyam wasn’t a political murder, Pinarayi Vijayan asked the Home Minister to explain what evidence he had with him to take a stand opposed to the DGP’s. He said that Jacob Punnoose had stated on the basis of the investigation conducted so far by the investigating police team that the murder was done for some private gain and that the culprits had already been identified. The DGP also had said that the police were trying to find out who were behind the culprits, pointed out Pinarayi, alleging that Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan was leading the plot to scuttle the entire investigation. Inaugurating a new building of the Thozhilali Library and Reading room at Thazhe Chovva here, Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Home Minister had become a megaphone of those leading the campaign against the CPM in the state raising the murder issue. “If Thrivanchoor Radhakrishnan had lost faith in the DGP he should ask the latter to step down,” said Pinarayi.Drawing public attention to the statement made by KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala demanding a CBI investigation into the murder, Pinarayi wondered whether Chennithala too had lost faith in the investigation of the state police. Pinarayi claimed that the CPM hadn’t physically attacked any one who had left the party so far. Lambasting the UDF for making use of the murder to take undue advantage in the Neyyatinkara bypoll, Pinarayi said that the UDF leaders were planning to take the relatives of Chandarasekharan for bypoll campaigns.
