New Delhi: A 440-pound Nile crocodile severed a zoo worker’s forearm in Kaohsiung, south west of Taipei in Taiwan.
According to reports, Chang Po-yu’s forearm was severed at the Shaoshan Zoo when the veterinarian tried to retrieve a tranquiliser dart from the reptile's hide.
Chang was rushed to the hospital while another zoo worker shot two bullets at the crocodile's neck to retrieve the forearm from its mouth.
Doctors reattached Chang's forearm on Thursday.
Reports said that the vet was unaware of the fact that the crocodile was not completely sedated when he stuck his arm through an iron rail to treat him.
The 17-year-old reptile, which was purchased from a local resident who had kept it as a pet, is one of a pair of Nile crocodiles kept by the zoo.
