COIMBATORE: Unidentified persons hurled two petrol bombs at the BJP office in Sundarapuram here in the early hours of Sunday. However, no one was injured in the incident, which occurred around 2 am.According to sources, the name board and some plastic chairs were damaged in the attack on the Kurichi zonal office of the BJP at Sangam Veethi. The second bomb fell into a nearby timber shop, in which some wood got damaged.An auto driver who passed by the area noticed the fire and informed the sub-inspector of police on duty at the police outpost a few metres away. Immediately, police rushed to the spot and doused the flames with the help of the public.Police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. The miscreants had used beer bottles for making the petrol bombs, said a police source.On a complaint from BJP functionaries, Podanur police have registered a case and are on the look out for the culprits.BJP Coimbatore South District secretary R Murugesan demanded that the police take immediate action and arrest the culprits, failing which the party would launch a State-wide protest.A BJP cadre Murugesan said that the partymen were in the office preparing for the flag-hoisting function to be held on Sunday. They had left only around 1 am and the incident had happened after that. Further investigation is being conducted.
